SumDU became the first Ukrainian member of the European Network for Academic Integrity
Now, SumDU belongs to the European Network for Academic Integrity (ENAI). The corresponding decision was made by its administration.
SumDU was the first Ukrainian institution to join the organization. Such a membership recognizes the SumDU academic integrity performance and innovative methods to promote its principles among students and researchers.
As a separate ENAI unit, the Educational Materials on Academic Integrity group invited Artem ARTIUKHOV to co-work. He is the chief of the SumDU Academic Integrity Department.
The ENAI unites educational institutions, national agencies for higher education quality assurance and persons who support and improve academic integrity in study and research.
It will be a great SumDU opportunity to share the academic integrity experience with the ENAI.
The project “With Academic Integrity to EU Values: Step by Step to Common Europe” was represented at the Academic Integrity Forum
On 4 October 2022, Artem ARTIUKHOV (associate professor of the Marketing Department, leader of the Academic Integrity University Group) represented the project “With Academic Integrity to EU Values: Step by Step to Common Europe” to Ukrainian educators and researchers during the Academic Integrity Forum. It was organized due to the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance and the Unicheck company.
Within his report “The Academic Integrity Assurance System at Universities and Its Independent Assessment: Approaching to World Standards”, Artem ARTIUKHOV described academic integrity requirements for integration into EU education and research branches. As an example of academic integrity performance, Sumy State University was discussed.
Over 850 people attended the forum.
It is one of academic integrity events on national and international levels. The forum was held according to the ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH-101048055 project “AICE – With Academic Integrity to EU Values: Step by Step to Common Europe”. That is co-funded by the EU Executive Agency for Education, Audial-Visual Means and Culture (the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet program).
The AICE project is dedicated to use of the best EU experience in academic integrity progress and to define roles of all university members in its implementation.
Sumy State University starts to perform the project “Implementation of EU best open practices in education and science”
Sumy State University scientists were given opportunity for dissemination of the Open Science paradigm and education by supporting EU project «Open since and education in Europe: success stories for Ukrainian academic community», which is co-funded by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency in the category Jean Monnet Modules of Erasmus+ programme.
The project aims to establish a network of Open Science principles providers in different regions of Ukraine. The main idea is to form a new paradigm for using open informational resources based on the best EU practices and help to enter into the European educational and scientific community, which is actively involved in the various projects in academic community.
There are plans to organize a series of webinars “Open innovational space: from knowledge generation to innovation transfer”, winter school” Open science in education and research: the best EU practice”, roundtable debate “ Fist steps in paradigm of using open informational resources: EU experience for Ukraine”, along with other education activities as part of the project.
National Training on Academic Integrity in Accreditation of Educational Programs
SumDU Academic Integrity Promotion Group with the support of partner universities (including Dnipro Polytechnic National University) and the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (NAQA) provided training "Academic Integrity as a driving force for improving the quality of higher education: cases of accreditation expertise."
The training took place over three days, from June 14 to 16, according to the following structure:
- Day 1: Analysis of HEI regulatory framework in terms of ensuring academic integrity.
- Day 2: Criteria for evaluating the system of ensuring academic integrity during the accreditation examination.
- Day 3: Academic Integrity in Self-Assessment Reports and Expert Group Reports - Cases.
This training is a continuation of a series of educational activities organized within the project ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH-101048055 "AICE - With Academic integrity to EU values: step by step to common Europe", co-financed by the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency under the Jean Monnet strand of the Erasmus + program.
About 450 participants from more than 50 organizations joined the training - higher education and research institutions, including students who are not indifferent to issues of academic integrity.
The AICE project is dedicated to implementing best practices of EU countries in ensuring academic integrity in the educational activities of educational institutions, defining the role of students, teachers and university management in creating an excellent educational environment.
Week of European Values of Academic Integrity
In the third decade of May, the Sumy State University Academic Integrity Group and Ukrainian higher education institutions organized a series of online events dedicated to reviewing national and European experiences in ensuring academic integrity.
"European Values of Academic Integrity Week" is the first in a series of educational activities organized within the project ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH-101048055 "AICE - With Academic integrity to EU values: step by step to common Europe", co-financed by the EU Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency under the Jean Monnet strand of the Erasmus + program.
On May 23, the AICE team addressed the educators and scientists of Ukraine with a thematic report and "Academic Integrity in Educational Institutions: The Experience of Ukraine and the European Union."
On May 24, the AICE project was presented in the form of a seminar - "Challenges to Higher Education in Building Academic Integrity Systems".
A round table, "Institutional Culture of Academic Integrity: National Experience and Best Practices of the European Union," was held on May 25 within the AICE.
About 300 participants from more than 40 organizations joined the lively discussion of topical topics - higher education institutions, research institutions, regional departments of education and science, and companies-developers of software for verifying the uniqueness of texts.

University Researchers are Preparing Textbooks on Open Science for MSc and PhD Students
As part of the OPTIMA project, funded by the European Union under the Erasmus + KA2 program, scientists from Sumy State University as a part of consortium began to prepare textbooks on open science in education and research. The manuals will be designed for MSc and PhD students, as well as other interested readers who want to master the principles of open science and successfully apply them in their work.
An important place in this manual will be occupied by issues of academic and research integrity. University researchers have joined as developers of a number of authored materials in this area. In the future, the project plans to create a mass open online course "Open Science and Open Scientific Practices" which will be based on the university platform "Examenarium".
Academic Integrity Discussed in SSU Online
On April 30, Sumy State University broadcasted a live discussion on Academic Integrity at the New Ukrainian School, which was attended by experts from Sumy, Kyiv and the United States.
The online discussion covered the causes and ways of combating plagiarism, fabrication, bribery. The speakers outlined the origins of academic malpractice in families and educational institutions, and answered questions from participants of the event.
The conversation was attended by SAIUP Academic Integrity Assistance Project Coordinator Taras Tymochko, National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education member Artem Artyukhov, Head of SSU Department of Management Anna Schwindina, Assistant Professor at Lake County and Harper College of Management Galyna Shogol, deputy director of Education and Science Department of Sumy City Council Elena Nazarenko and students of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
The discussion was moderated by Nikita Kovalevsky, a student, an employee of the SSU extra-curricular department, an expert of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.
As a result of the event, experts plan to develop new joint projects to overcome academic malpractice in educational institutions.

On November 20, SSU students attended a meeting with Taras Tymochko, the coordinator for Strengthening Academic Integrity in Ukraine Project (SAIUP). An interactive lecture with elements of a friendly conversation was devoted to the values of healthy academic relationships and ways to prevent facilitating academic dishonesty. Taras Tymochko noted the high awareness of SSU students in matters related to academic integrity.

The main goal of the “Open Practices, Transparency and Integrity for Modern Academia" (OPTIMA) project is implementing Open Science practices in Ukraine to improve the quality of National higher education services. OPTIMA's priorities include engaging disadvantaged academic communities of displaced Ukrainian universities, focusing on climate change as well as inclusivity by means of modern information technologies.
